This 600 foot mural connects the concepts of war,
peace, refugees, justice, torture, and displacement
through the eyes of the survivor, Huong, who in 1975
fled Vietnam with only one shoe and her baby son in
arms. A former journalist in Vietnam at the time of the
war, she has since swapped her pen for a brush in an
effort to ”paint out” the passions within her.
After coming to America, Huong launched an art
career that has captured the attention of art audiences
and critics internationally. Not unlike Picasso’s own war
protest painting Guernica, Huong’s paintings
collectively form a body of work that address the global
issues of war and peace.
Through hundreds of canvases, the Peace Mural is a
symbol of Huong's determination to purge our culture
from the ways of war. This Peace Opus is the
culmination of 30 years of searing memories that
brings history to life and depicts the universal pain of
war and hope for peace.
This spectacular and timely exhibit is both evocative
and provocative and carries the power to echo for
years to come. This is a "must see" for all who are
committed to building a better world for our children
and their children.
