The University of North Florida was honored to showcase a 200-foot segment of the extraordinary Peace Mural
created by artist Huong, a Vietnamese-born war refugee, peace activist, and internationally renowned artist. The full
mural is nearly 600 feet in length and 8 feet high, and until recently, has been permanently exhibited at Huong's Art,
War and Peace Museum in Jenson Beach, Florida.
At UNF, The Peace Mural was exhibited in the lobby of the Fine Arts
Center, providing a fitting setting for a series of events at that venue
throughout Peace Awareness Week, including a Symposium on Conflict
Transformation. The exhibit was free and open to the public and
garnered the interest of many who came to see it. Many persons were
able to meet Huong and take part in one of several interactive
workshops with the artist and her Mural. Participants were invited to
experience the Mural and to reflect upon their own thoughts about the
challenge of peacemaking, and then to add their own words to the
Peace Mural. Participants also had the opportunity to share in reflective
dialogue with others about the impact of the Mural, and to consider
what actions they might take to make a stand for peace in the world and
in their relationships with others.
